In this fishing technique, which is based on the aggressive instincts of predatory fish, i.e. fish that feed mainly by hunting other fish,
one or more lines with a bait attached are pulled very slowly from the boat. The end line for the live bait is standardised and consists of two hooks; the first, 1\/0 or 2\/0, has the task of dragging the bait, the second, 3\/0 or 4\/0, is designed to hook the fish. The most commonly used baits are garfish, calamari, squid and mackerel, where the first hook closes the mouth from the bottom up, while the second hook is placed under the skin at the level of the anus. The main problem when trolling with live bait is to obtain the bait in sufficient quantity and satisfactory quality. To catch large pelagic and resident predators such as snapper, amberjack, grouper, etc., the bait must work at great depths.
This requires sinking systems for the lines, which can consist of weights from 250 to 750 grams (commonly referred to as sentinel leads) or downriggers (cannonballs), which are very heavy lead balls (from 4 to over 10 kilos) which are lowered to the bottom using special jigs. Fishing with live bait is mainly based on the search for predatory fish hunting near the shallows.
All fishing should be based on the information provided by the echo sounder. The echo sounder indicates where to look for predators, depending on the type of small fish and the seabed. The main areas where good results can be obtained are ledges on the edges of shallows where small fish congregate, favoured by currents and the presence of microorganisms which form the basis of the marine food chain. This situation makes hunting favourable for most predatory fish.
The trick is to get the bait over the abyss, carefully follow the course of the shallows and keep the bait close to the bottom. In addition to these classic prey species, there are a whole range of other predators that can fall prey to live bait. In most situations, we are dealing with large and very strong opponents.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

This is a very old technique practised by both professionals and amateurs. It does not require much in the way of equipment or the boat and is practised from a certain distance from the coast using hand lines or rods with reels.
This technique aims to catch fish not normally found close to the coast, or which are easier to catch on the rocky seabed at a depth of between 20 and 70 metres.
The basic concept of this fishing technique is to cast a fishing line with two or three hooks to the bottom, attach a suitable bait to it and wait for the fish to bite before catching and reeling in the prey. Nothing overly complicated at first glance, but as the most experienced anglers know, with any technique there are little tricks and difficult decisions that can affect the outcome of a fishing trip, and pilk fishing is no exception to this rule! Furthermore, the development of fishing technology has made it possible to practice these techniques at depths previously unattainable and even reach depths of over 150 metres! Deep-sea fishing, like trolling, can lead to very satisfying results if practised in the right way and in the right place to catch valuable and large fish species.
