and Monte di Luna <br \/>Trail length: from the hotel approx. 4 km round trip; approx. 2 hours&#8217; walking time<br \/>Lentiscelle Beach &#8211; Monte di Luna and return: approx. 1.5 km, approx. 45 min., elevation: 100 m.<br \/>Marina di Camerota is a quaint little fishing village with many charming narrow streets, small shops and bars. The beautiful church of Sant&#8217;Alfonso towers over the central Piazza San Domenico. If you walk under the porticoes, you will come across a small photo exhibition about life in the past, when the women worked as &#8216;strambaie&#8217;, collecting and beating the spartea grass to make ropes that were used both for fishing and for domestic purposes. Going down to the marina, you can walk along the harbour to the Marina delle Barche beach, from where you can admire the 18th century Marquis&#8217; Palace and, a little further along the coast, two Saracen towers built at the end of the 16th century as a defence against pirates and other attackers. <br \/>Continuing the walk along the beach, you will reach the small road that leads to the second beach east of the town, Lentiscelle. <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Along the route that leads to<\/span> <b>Lentiscelle<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">there are two caves of great archaeological importance, dating back to the Stone Age: <\/span><b>the Grotta della Cala and the Grotta Sepolcrale<\/b>, <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in which bones and skulls of 6 individuals,<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">called<\/span> <b>Homo Camerotensis,<\/b> were found. <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The largest cave can also be visited (with reservation)<\/span>. Lentiscelle beach is a lovely place to relax and swim in the crystal-clear sea.<br \/>If you still have the energy and want to continue the hike and make another beautiful discovery, you can climb the hill at Torre Zancale at the end of the beach, which offers a breathtaking view of Cala Fortuna Bay and the imposing cliffs. <br \/>A path leads up to <b>Monte di Luna<\/b> and, if you wish, you can make a loop by continuing to the first crossroads on the left, signposted Marina di Camerota. Descend a path with steps along a shady wood that leads to the beach of Lentiscelle behind the cemetery.<\/p><p><b>West Coast<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span> Walk along the four beaches between Marina di Camerota and Palinuro &#8211; Calanca, Capo Grosso, Porticello, Cala d&#8217;Arconte<br \/>Trail length: from the hotel approx. 7 km round trip, 2-3 hrs.<br \/>The walk starts at the hotel and reaches Calanca beach on the right, a popular bay with white sand. At the far end of the beach, a short flight of steps leads to the coastal path. You walk through the evergreen bushes, soon reach the Saracen tower Torre dell&#8217;Isola and then continue alongside small, hidden coves to the next larger beach, the Spiaggia di Capo Grosso. A marked path leads up the next hill to the third beach, Cala d&#8217;Arconte, with a beautiful view as far as Palinuro. Continuing on foot (you can also walk in the water on a calm day), you reach the fourth beach at the bay of Porticello.<br \/>All four bays are perfect for swimming and relaxing but are often very busy in high season. You&#8217;ll love it!<br \/>For the way back, you can take the same path, which now offers completely different views, or you can walk back to Marina via the main road to be reached up the stairs from Cala d&#8217;Arconte beach.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-accordion-item\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-title-2032\" class=\"elementor-tab-title\" data-tab=\"2\" role=\"button\" aria-controls=\"elementor-tab-content-2032\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-accordion-icon elementor-accordion-icon-left\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-accordion-icon-closed\"><i class=\"fas fa-plus\"><\/i><\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-accordion-icon-opened\"><i class=\"fas fa-minus\"><\/i><\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a class=\"elementor-accordion-title\" tabindex=\"0\">Trekking for recreational hikers, routes with medium difficulty, some hilly terrain<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-content-2032\" class=\"elementor-tab-content elementor-clearfix\" data-tab=\"2\" role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"elementor-tab-title-2032\"><p><b>Pozzallo and Cala Bianca beaches<\/b>&#8230; (Part 1)<br \/>Trail length: from the hotel approx. 8 km round trip,<br \/>4-hour walk<br \/>elevation approx. 190 m<br \/>Alternative: trail length from the hotel one way only, approx. 4 km,<br \/>2-hour walk. <br \/>Return by boat (to be booked in advance).<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span>A hike along the coast, past the harbour and the prehistoric caves and from <b>Lentiscelle beach<\/b> up a shady path to <b>Monte di Luna<\/b> (approx. 15 min.). Then follow the signs for a while and walk along a gravel road, which after about 20 minutes leads to a beautiful path along a myrtle hedge and other Mediterranean shrubs to a plateau which offers a marvellous view of the Gulf of Policastro and the mountain range in Basilicata and Calabria. From here, the descent to Pozzallo begins (approx. 20 minutes).<br \/>Be careful not to slip on the gravel! During the summer season, you can dive into the ever-clear sea in Pozzallo and enjoy a meal in the small restaurant &#8220;Ristoro familiare del Pozzallo&#8221;. If you continue in the direction of Porto Naturale Infreschi, after about a 10-minute walk you will pass the small, somewhat hidden but very well-known Cala Bianca beach, which was voted the most beautiful beach in Italy in 2013. <br \/>The only way to reach it is on foot, as not even boats are allowed to dock at this enchanting, unspoilt and protected beach. Near <b>Cala Bianca<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is the<\/span> <b>Grotta della Difesa<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(also known as<\/span> <b>Grotta Fattoria<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">)<\/span>, which is best visited with a guide due to the lack of signposting &#8230;continuing on to Porto Naturale degli Infreschi (Part 2)<br \/>Trail length: from the hotel, one way only approx. 7 km, <br \/>approx. 3.5-hour walk,<br \/>elevation approx. 200 m<br \/>Possibility of returning by boat (to be booked in advance).<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span>If you are a good walker, you can continue the hike from <b>Pozzallo beach<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">or<\/span> <b>Cala Bianca<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to the<\/span> well-signposted <b>Porto Naturale Infreschi<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span>This takes about an hour and involves several ascents and descents through the Mediterranean scrub among broom, strawberry and carob trees and rosemary. The final descent along a path with a breathtaking view of the entire Gulf of Policastro leads to the small <b>church of San Lazzaro<\/b> (dating back to 1630), which protects the enchanting Baia Infreschi with its crystal-clear waters. <br \/>The name Infreschi derives from the cool underground freshwater springs which in the past enabled fishermen to keep their catch, especially tuna, fresh in the area&#8217;s caves.<br \/>Our tip: The Oasi Infreschi farm, located above Porto Infreschi, invites you to take a pleasant break under the olive and fig trees (good food! &#8211; only open in summer).<\/p><p>There are several options for the return journey: either along the same route or a longer route inland on an easy road down to Monte di Luna and along the path passing Torre del Poggio. <br \/>It is also possible to return by boat (book in advance), admiring the coast and the sea caves on the way to the harbour of Marina di Camerota.<\/p><p><b>Collina della Molpa<\/b><br \/>Trail length: from the hotel a 20 min. bus ride; <br \/>the hike begins at Marinelle beach in front of the Arco Naturale. <br \/>Round trip: 3 km walk, approx. 1 1\/2 hours, <br \/>elevation 140 m.<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><br \/>South-east <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the<\/span> <b>Palinuro headland<\/b>, <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">between the<\/span> <b>Lambro<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and<\/span> <b>Mingardo<\/b> rivers, rises a hill steeped in history: the Molpa (140 metres high). <br \/>A short, well signposted hiking trail leads to the <b>Castello della Molpa<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span> of which only the foundation walls remain.<br \/>In the 6th century BC, the Greeks built the town of Molpa on this hill, an important trading centre with its own currency and a strategically important point of defence against attackers from the sea. <br \/>It was the capital of Lucania for a time in the Middle Ages but was destroyed during the Gothic Wars (544 AD). <br \/>In the 11th century, Molpa was rebuilt by the Normans and the Castello di Molpa was erected as a fortress. The <b>church of San Giuliano<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span> of which some remains of the walls can still be seen, was built a century later by Basilian monks. Its decline began with repeated attacks by the Saracens, who captured the castle and razed it to the ground in 1464. <br \/>In the 16th century, several coastal towers were built for the defence and security of the population, such as the <b>Torre della Molpa<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, also known as<\/span> <b>Torre Marinella<\/b> (around 1554). The defence tower made it impossible for the Saracens to moor their ships and go ashore. The counties of Pisciotta, Molpa and Palinuro existed until 1806, after which Molpa was completely abandoned and the castle was never rebuilt.<br \/>The path leads up to the hill of ancient Molpa, through which you climb among mastic bushes, brambles, myrtle, broom, dog roses and other types of shrubs in the magnificent Mediterranean scrub. At the end you reach an area from where you can see the mouth of the Mingardo river from above and, further beyond, the huge sandy beach of<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">i <\/span><b>Cala del Cefalo<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span>broken at times by groups of rocks and closed by the spur of <b>Capo Grosso<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, abandoning the main route and following the branch on the right you reach a plateau, east of the ruins of the Castle, from which you can observe an indescribable panorama.<\/span>\u00a0From here you can admire the entire southern cliffs of the Palinuro promontory.<\/p><p><b>Capo Palinuro<\/b><br \/>Trail length: by bus from the hotel to Palinuro 20 min.; a hike of roughly 13 km, approx. 3-4 hours;<br \/>elevation approx. 200 m<\/p><p>The hike begins at the junction of the state road to <b>Palinuro<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span> Go down the small road to the right which leads to the Spiaggia Saline (salt pans beach), where you can admire the ancient millstones from the Greco-Roman period. <br \/>This is followed by a lovely walk along the sea and, after a while, up to the village, past the <b>ANTIQUARIUM archaeological museum<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span>Early in the year, the <b>Palinuri primroses<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span> a native plant of the Cilento coast with an intense yellow colour which has become the symbol of the national park, bloom on the rocks next to the museum.<br \/>Arriving at the harbour of Palinuro, the path leads to the rocky plateau, one of the most famous in Italy. Passing the <b>Punta del Fortino<\/b> from the early 19th century and other towers of the viceroyalty, you reach the weather station and the lighthouse, the highest point of the rocky promontory. Opposite the lighthouse is Punta Spartivento, so named because sailors passing by on their boats feared the winds of Palinuro. <br \/>From here, continue to the tower of <b>Cala Fetente<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span> from where you can admire the <b>Finestrella<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span> a hole in the rock, a truly magical place.<br \/>There are two options for the return journey: <br \/>Either a circular route through the shady pine forest, which is well signposted and leads to the road to the port of Palinuro, or you can continue the hike in an easterly direction, crossing a small park with archaeological excavations and descending to the Ponte sul Lambro in the Isca delle Donne area. If you want to cover the entire route on foot, follow the path which leads to the chapel of Sant&#8217;Antonio and from there descend through the village of Sinna to Marina di Camerota.<\/p><p><b>Four beaches and seven towers tour<\/b><br \/>Trail length: from the hotel 12 km; 5-6 hrs; elevation 430 m.<br \/>Due to the lack of signposting, it is advisable to undertake this hike accompanied by a hiking guide. <br \/>If you take the path down from San Cono, it is necessary to take a car or bus to return to the hotel.<\/p><p>The hike starts at the hotel and leads along the four idyllic beaches of Calanca, Capo Grosso, Arconte and Porticello, past the cliffs and the Saracen tower Torre dell&#8217;Isola. From the last beach, you climb up to the main road leading to Palinuro. Once you have crossed this road, a path heads to <b>Torre Fenosa<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span> from where you have an impressive view of the west coast. <br \/>The path climbs higher and higher through dense Mediterranean scrub, past more tower ruins, up to <b>Monte Sant&#8217;Antonio<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span> where the highest point of the hike is reached.<br \/><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the return there are several variants: once you reach <strong>Monte Sant&#8217;Antonio<\/strong>, you can continue towards the Cappella Sant&#8217;Antonio, with its splendid panoramic view, and take one of the paths that lead back to Marina (via Sinna or via Capo Canto), or you can choose the path that branches off to the left, which passes in front of the farmhouse of an ancient Basilian monastery (restored) and crosses the pine forest of <strong>San Cono<\/strong>.<\/span>The somewhat steep and stony path ends on the main road just before Palinuro, and you will need a lift to return to Marina.<\/p><p><b>San Cono Trail<\/b><br \/>Trail length: 15 min. by bus from the hotel to the starting point; approx. 10 km one way; elevation 430 m.<br \/>Return by bus from Camerota (if desired).<br \/>Due to the lack of signposting, it is advisable to undertake this hike accompanied by a hiking guide. <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span>The old trade route begins with a climb before the bridge over the river Mingardo, which separates the municipality of Camerota from that of Centola\/Palinuro. The first stretch is the most challenging but well signposted, you climb along a beautiful pine forest of Aleppo pines and pass through the majestic <strong>&#8220;Iazzo&#8221; of S. Iconio<\/strong> and along the ruins of an ancient Basilian monastery dating back to the year 1000, which was recently renovated, to then arrive at the small Sant&#8217;Antonio Chapel.<br \/>From here you have a magnificent view of the coast and Cape Palinuro as well as the three hamlets belonging to the village of Camerota: Licusati, Lentiscosa and Marina. Our hike begins in Licusati, more precisely at the pilgrimage church of the Annunziata, at an altitude of around 400 metres. Along the way, we can admire a wide valley dotted with cultivated land with centuries-old olive trees, vineyards and hazelnut groves, the famous &#8220;iazzi&#8221;, old farmhouses where cattle were kept. <br \/>We hike through chestnut groves and lavender fields until we reach the refuge at an altitude of around 1000 metres. After a refreshment break, we continue towards the summit (1225 m)<br \/>where we can admire a breathtaking panorama.<\/p><p><b>Monte Gelbison<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">or<\/span> <b>Monte Sacro<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span>Trail length: from the hotel a bus ride of approx. 1 hour; approx. 4 hours walking time; 10 km (round trip).<\/p><p>The route follows in the footsteps of the ancient pilgrimages made by the inhabitants of Lucania, Calabria and Cilento to the <b>sanctuary of Monte Gelbison<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span>The route begins in <b>Sorbatello<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(<\/span>493 m) and leads through lush chestnut groves. <br \/>The first stop is the <b>Tre Croci<\/b> (Three Crosses). From here, the trail continues to the <b>Vallone del Sacrato<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span> where, according to tradition, a stone is collected as a sacred offering and placed on the hills at the foot of the final ascent. After the Vallone, the path climbs significantly and reaches the <b>Passo della Beta<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(1332 m).<\/span> In the last section, the path joins the one coming from <b>Novi Velia<\/b> and the Palinuro area until it reaches the Sanctuary area (1705 m).<\/p><p><b>Monte Cervati<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1899 m<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span>Trail length: from the hotel a 1 hour 30-minute bus ride; approx. 5-6 hours walking time; 15 km.<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Monte Cervati<\/b> is the highest mountain in Campania. The geological composition of the massif shows the characteristic morphology of a karst landscape with sinkholes, cool springs and temporary watercourses. <br \/>From the summit you can see the <b>Vallo di Diano<\/b> and the massif of <b>Monte Motola<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(1700 m),<\/span> <b>Monte Gelbison<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and the<\/span> sea.<br \/>At the summit of Monte Cervati there is a chapel and a grotto dedicated to <b>Our Lady of the Snows<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span> The route begins at <b>Monte San Giacomo<\/b> (1250 m), where a wide mule track climbs steeply and passes a stream called &#8220;l&#8217;acqua che sona&#8221; (the babbling water). <br \/>The first stop is at the <b>Fontana degli Zingari<\/b>, where you can quench your thirst with cool spring water.<br \/>Further on, a wider path leads across a flat area with only a slight incline. Entering a huge beech forest, you can admire the colour display created by the sun&#8217;s rays filtering through the branches. <br \/>After another short climb, you reach the large clearing where the <b>Rosalia mountain<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span>hut is located. After a short break for a snack, the ascent to the summit begins via the <b>slope known as &#8220;Chiaia Amara&#8221;<\/b>, an old mule track from which you have a marvellous view of the Cilento mountains. <br \/>Then, a huge crater, a karst depression (dolina), opens up to the hiker&#8217;s gaze, which you walk around to reach the sanctuary of the &#8220;Madonna delle Nevi&#8221; and then on to the summit.<br \/>An absolute must on the way back is a stop at the refuge to enjoy a rich and well-deserved lunch with typical Cilento products, accompanied by an excellent local wine. A unique and unforgettable experience&#8230;<br \/>Monte Stella<br \/>Trail length: from the hotel a one-hour bus ride; approx. 4 hours&#8217; walking time; 12 km; elevation 550 m.<br \/>It is a massif with a crest which rises 1131 metres above sea level. <br \/>On the summit is a small church dedicated to the Madonna del Monte della Stella. It dates back to the year 1000 and was restored in 1993. <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/><\/span>Monte Stella (Cilento) is the symbolic centre of the origins of Cilento. The area in the immediate vicinity of the mountain is known as &#8220;<b>ancient Cilento<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;<\/span> to distinguish it from the National Park as a whole. <br \/>Monte Stella has a characteristic silhouette which dominates a wide panorama stretching down to the sea.
